Diversity In The Workplace:
Diversity extends beyond the original definitions from years ago and instead has evolved to a philosophy that focuses on valuing diversity far beyond culture. This philosophy vividly demonstrates that we are not only similar, but also different in an infinite number of dimensions. Culture is only one of these. Diversity is about demographics, profitability, values, and behaviors. It must be viewed as a long-term process and commitment to influence change within the infrastructure of any organization.

Sexual Harrassment:
What is perceived as sexual harassment? Is this appropriate or inappropriate? Is this welcomed or unwelcome? Is this sexual in nature? In a diverse workforce, are behaviors perceived the same way? This workshop gives you the tools to be able to recognize behaviors that could be perceived to be sexual harassment, but may be something of a cultural nature. This workshop tells you what you need to do to address allegations of sexual harassment at all levels in your workforce. Don't wait until you are hit with a lawsuit to make changes in your company!

Cultural Miscommunication:
Build better working relationships with your employees and clients by breaking down cultural stereotypes. Learn how to avoid miscommunication or even offending colleagues and customers that may result in costly litigation. Family values, cultural traditions and perceptions will all be addressed to educate participants on the minority populations of our society. This workshop will focus on African-American and Hispanic cultures and helps improve communication with these growing populations.

Workshops Title and Descriptions

1) Diversity Outreach - Developing Campaigns and Programs

This workshop is customized for each client. Participants will learn what types of community outreach projects/campaigns they can develop and what messaging is needed to reach the specific community. This workshop can be developed for African American, Native American or Latino outreach. Workshop time is ½ day – 1 day. In addition to workshop one on one coaching is available.

2) All About Latinos

This workshop discusses the cultural beliefs and traditions of Latinos. Cultural views, myths and realities are also explored on requested topics. Participants will learn about the various communication styles, as well the definitions of Latino VS Hispanic and the diversity within the Latino race. Learn what can me considered offensive when communicating and learn how to better serve this community.

3) Tears Without a Voice – Latina Battered Women

This workshop discusses the cultural beliefs and traditions of many immigrant Latina battered women. It explores the barriers the women have, the role of family, religion, folk and alternative healing methods used to deal with domestic violence. Discover the hidden threats that exist not only from the batterer, but also from the smugglers and relatives. This workshop is a must for any group working in the area of domestic violence, sexual assault or/and incest.

4) A Story of Hop and Fried Chicken

This is a keynote address in which Betty Ramirez Swinners shares her story of success and survival. Betty was a homeless child, living on the streets, eating out of trash cans and received little education. A survivor of physical, sexual, and ritual abuse, Betty was voted one of Texas Most Influential Hispanic Women by Texas Hispanic Magazine. She is an international speaker who shares her story to give others hope with the message that “it doesn’t matter where you come from, what matters is where you are going”.

6) Violence in The Workplace Prevention

Ensure that your place of employment remains a safe place to work. Understand the dangers of violence in the workplace, recognize various warning signs, and learn the correct procedures for response. Statistics prove that a person beginning to "lose control" will most likely show warning signs before they become violent. Learning to spot and respond to these warning signs can greatly improve the chances of a situation being defused before it escalates out of control, minimizing the risk to yourself and others. Almost every circumstance is unique, so your response will ultimately depend on the training you've received, your personal judgment, and the quick decisions you will be forced to make.
